Hi all,

Been a while since my last post about a Canon i950 with blocked print head.

Now have Canon Pro 9000 and very pleased with results.

Use Ilford Galerie Gloss paper and profile downloaded from Ilford website.

Have also sold first prints so very pleased.

I have also started to produce HDR images using Photomatix Pro which has been a new challenge for me and have introduced this to my local French photo club who are quite enthusiastic.

Anyone have any views on this software?

If I could work out how to attach an image here I would show you a recent panorama shot in RAW & processed in HDR with tonemapping but I have been unsuccessful with inserting an image.

I used to use Photomatix, then Mike put a HDR slider in Ultimate and subsequently proved that you can get the same result in Ultimate with one raw exposure.

I found that Photomatix tended to introduce all sorts of artifacts and overcooked greens etc.

I will post the image later if you wish, once through Ultimate and once through Photomatix, hosting site down at moment.

PS I have also found that withthe new auto fill. Ultimate now processes three bracketed images to about the same! (one normal ex, and one one stop up and one down) - a lot of upping and downing but no doubt you know what I mean .

There are differences, the clock face and the large window are just about blown out, whereas in the Photomatix process these areas are not so bright, but, against that the Ultimate process has got some detail in the sky and other dark areas. You pays your money and takes your pick.

Also you have to consider that the Photomatix process takes a LOT longer and then has to be passed through say PS Elements for touch up and final adjustments.
Ultimate does it all at one go and only takes up disk space equiv. to the original raw file. (the Photomatix created a 40ish meg file, and if using layers and saving in psd. a heck of a lot more space.

Many thanks for the comments and images.

I hear what you say however I am happy with the software I have.

But I am always happy to participate in any forum on the subject.

However I am still awaiting an answer as to why I can't attach an image.

If I click on the "Insert Image" button all I get is [img] [img] and no obvious way of adding an image.

I have tried copy and paste too.

Hello

My images Web Sized from Ultimate are uploaded to an account I have with http://www.zenfolio.com/
From Zenfolio I select share this photo and that gives a url link to the image. It is this link that is inserted between the img tags - viz. [img] imageurl [img]

Other hosting sites no doubt have similar functions - google "image hosting" ?

Click Additional Options below the reply box, see attachment below.
With insert image, the image needs to be located on another web site with the web address and file name inserted.

About so called HDR:

As Jeff said, many situations with a high dynamic range can be dealt with using a single raw image and Qimage Ultimate has the raw refine features to utilize the inherent HDR of a raw image. The particular effect or "look" that "HDR" programs produce seems to me more to do with local tone mapping that is part of their process. It also seems to be one of the latest fashions in photographic manipulation to produce that sort of look. PBase is full of galleries with this type of, (dare I say it Shocked

), distorted images where the effect is overdone.
I can produce a similar look to images using Corel PaintShop Pro and the local tone mapping feature but it needs to be used in moderation.
