Help!
I'm forced into buying a new printer and the Epson P50 appently meets my budgetary contraints whilst printing reasoanbly.
However, it apparently has a limitation of not being able to print anything longer than some 600mm (picked up from DP Review) and I want to adapt it to print from a roll to do panoramics as I did with my R220.
Has anyone any experience of this printer and does using QI studio get me out of this potential hole?
Thanks
David

as I did with my R220.
It looks like you wont be able to do it unless I missed the spec in the P50 that says roll paper.
The Epson R 220 did accommodate roll paper and banner mode, so Qimage could make a print of enormous length.
I read three reviews of the P50, and no mention of roll paper mode at all.

Hi Fred. Not being a frequenter of these forum (in the same way as the Yahoo email group) I certainly miss your (occasionally acerbic but) infectious humour!
The 220 was never designed for rolls in say the same way as the R800 i.e. with a proper support and all. I simply made a support mechanism for it and used it by setting a user defined paper size. It could go up to 11176mm!
Does this all mean there is no 'user defined' paper size option in the P50s paper menu?

I just got off the phone with a friend with an R 220. It has roll paper mode and the spools for mounting. According to him, and comparing to my R 1800 roll paper setup, they are so similar as to be considered the same.
I don't know about User Defined in the P50. I don't have that driver or manual, but as long as there is no roll paper option with banner mode, you will not beat the built in sizes.
You could still have User Defined when you have odd size paper that you cut or just want to define; not larger than allowable.

Best I can do.

David,
The only A4 printer that I know of that has roll feed and banner mode is the Epson R800. I have one but never used it in that way. I notice that the specs on the Epson web site do not mention this feature nor do they mention a maximum length of 600 mm for the P50  Huh?
The R800 is now an old design but mine produces superb prints  Smiley
The best way to check what a printer can do is download its driver and install it, just pass over the bit about connecting the printer. Epson, and I think Canon will allow you to do this but not HP.

This was on the UK web site. The US site gives much more data. There the P50 is called Artisan 50 and will do up to 44 ins (1100mm) in length, is that enough for you?

Thanks Terry.
Thats exactly what the old one did. Same length. It should then be fine. If you want rid of your 800 let me know... ;-)

There seems to be some conflict in the info available, see:

As I said, d/l the driver & install and then you'll see for yourself  Wink
Perhaps the Artisan 50 and the P50 are not the same items  Huh?
