All,

I posted a few years ago about my R1800 I had at the time and it's issues with not being able to load paper.  It appears I'm having similar issues with my R1900 printer.  What started out as just a couple of blocked nozzles has now turned into the printer not wanting to feed paper properly.  Here is how I got where I'm at:  Started with noticing color missing from one of my prints so I ran a nozzle check and sure enough multiple colors showed blocked nozzles.  Ran the head clean utility with no success.  No paper feed issues at this point.  I did some searching on the internet and found some color charts to print in lieu of the nozzle check which some sites suggest is better than running the nozzle check and head cleaning.  After 2 or so sheet things were looking good but not perfect but the sheet was showing some horizontal banding on all colors.  More searching on the internet (right or wrong) lead me to others using windex, etc. to clean ink pads, etc. which I did since the ink pad on the left was overflowing.  At or about this point is when the banding got worse.  I thought perhaps the rollers were not grabbing the paper so I started to run cleaning sheets through which is where it got worse.  If I put a cleaning sheet in (per the directions for the R1900 on Epson's site) and press the paper feed button the paper que's up properly.  Pressing the paper feed button again to eject the paper causes the paper to advance about 1/2" before it stops and flashes the green power light and red paper feed light simultaneously.  pressing the button again clears the error, pressing again advances another 1/2" and so on and so forth.  Once you repeat this process enough you can eventually get the paper out of the printer.  If I power the printer off (with the button) and then power back on sometimes the printer will go through the initialization perfectly, other times it will stop at the end flashing the paper feed and ink lights.  So, I guess my question is if anyone has any suggestions (other than kicking it to the curb) that I can try?  Could I have gotten ink on the PE sensor or any other sensor?  I really like this printer and the prints I get from it, but after the R1800 and now this one doing nearly the same thing I'm losing hope.  Not to mention the wife saying if I can't fix it myself we're done with photo printers  Shocked .

Thanks,
Dave

Try unplugging the electricity from the printer and leaving the plug out for a full minute before replacing it.

Banding is most always from clogged nozzles not paper movement.

Fred,

Thanks but I've tried that already.  At this point, computer aside, I can't even take a fresh sheet of paper and eject it through the printer.  The paper will load fine (i.e. press the paper feed button draws the paper into the printer ready to print), but then if I want to "eject" the paper by pressing the paper feed button again it will only draw the paper into the printer another 1/2" or so before it stops and the lights start flashing as described before.  The the only option is to either power the printer off and pull the paper out, or keep pressing the paper feed button many times.

Thanks,

Dave

I have had R1800 and R1900 and have found the only ink that will perform trouble free is Epson's. I say this after using various brands and cartridges for many years. Takes a lot of experience to experiment with ink types, being able to recognize problems.

You did not say what type ink you were using!!

Don,

I have always used Epson inks from B&H in my 1800 and 1900 printers.  My problem now is not even ink related.  I can't even get the printer to power up without the power light and paper feed light flashing.  Occasionally I'll power it up and it will give the solid green power light, but after putting a sheet in and pressing paper feed it will fault again.  I found a service manual online and have taken the printer apart making sure all the sensors are at least clean and mechanically sound.  My next step will be to verify voltages with the multimeter.  I'm was just hoping someone else had the same or similar issue and had an easy fix before I give up on it.  I'm hesitant to buy another one since both printers now have had similar problems.

Thanks,
Dave

Just thought I'd post back that I have solved my printer problems.  I finally gave up and took the printer to an authorized Epson Service Center (closest one to me is Indianapolis 2 hrs. away).  They diagnosed the problem and determined that it was the auto sheet feeder not feeding properly.  They ordered a new assembly, installed/tested it, and shipped it back to me good as new.  The printer now prints flawlessly, couldn't be happier.  Definitely cheaper than buying a new printer.

Thanks,

Dave,
Thanks a bunch for following up.  Whether the ending is a happy one as in your case, or a sad one,,, by following up, we all learn a lot.

Now, back to Peyton Manning; you guys tossed him aside like an old R 1800.   Grin Smiley Wink
