Hi:

Right now (as far as I can tell), QU sends the print jobs named as "QImage-{timestamp}".  Under preferences->job logging->job file naming, there appears to be a way to set the job name to "manually input".  Is there a way (that I haven't found yet) to automatically set the job name to something else - like {filename}-{timestamp}?

Why am I asking: my printer (HP Designjet Z2100) will internally log the job name along with ink consumption and it would be nice to have an actual filename associated with the ink consumption instead of "qimage-{timestamp}".

Thanks!

Hi Ron,

This option will prompt you to name the the job each time so is not automatic.

Using the file name of an image for automatic job naming is not likely to be possible because many users will have multiple images in a job.
You can search the auto job log using a file name.
Open the Auto Job Log and use the binoculars icon on the RHS to search. Then use the Page Down to find highlighted (in green) items with that text in the "File Details area. The thumbnails that show give a quick indication that you have the correct images.

Well, then let's call it a feature request then.  I'll worry about how my jobs get sent to the printer (I do 1 image per job in the first place), it would just be nice to be able to name the jobs so I don't have to do a bunch of extra steps...

I would there are many 1000's of QU users who don't, so which file name out of 5, 10 or 20 images would you choose?
It's one extra step if you choose manual naming, not a "bunch)  Wink

That's up to Mike to comment now.

There are actually multiple issues with naming a job via an image name.  First, as already mentioned, QU is a batch printing program and many people print multiple images per job in which case, it wouldn't always make sense to just name the job by the first (of many) prints.  Even if you limit the feature to including the file name if only one image is printed, file names are not unique.  You could have the same file name in several different folders (or even drives, including backup drives) so to really know which image was printed, you'd have to include the full path in the job name which may cause problems with job name length.

If I wanted to look at ink consumption for a particular print, I'd do as Terry suggested and search for that image in QU's job log.  You can then look at the corresponding jobs in your HP driver.

Regards,
Mike
