I am a new Qimage user.  Thanks for your patience while I work through issues.

I am getting the "image read error" in the thumbnails for very large files (1+ gig).  I checked the forum and learned that this is an insufficient memory issue, and that I could check available memory through the Help/Analyze settings functions. 

The machine shows as having:

start 2146
Addl 909
Now 852.

Seems low. 

Here's the question:  this is a brand new computer with 32 gig of RAM installed.  I have checked, and all the memory is working.  Task manager never shows that more than 9 gig of RAM is being used at any one time, even with Photoshop, etc.  running.  Somehow, Qimage does not seem to be able to access all the available memory.  Windows 10.

Any thoughts?

I have W10 with 16 gig of ram
Please give us the resolution of the images that are 1 gig plus.
Also reboot computer with PS etc not running
See what you read.

After restart, and with nothing else running, the memory figures are:

2146
909
2146

Better, but it still seems like the program isn't able to access all the memory.

The huge files are 2400 dpi drum scans of 5x7 negatives at 16 bits color.  I've had no problem printing them out of Photoshop to an Epson.  I am now trying to print them out of Qimage onto a HP z3200

BTW, I think you were the guy to sent me to Ernst about my other HP issues.  Ernst knew the answer right away.  It had to do with the HP sensing when paper is not quite cut to spec by the factory and doing bizarre stuff in response.  The HP documentation leaves quite a bit to be desired . . . .  Anyway, thanks for referring me to Ernst.

Errors like that do show as well when CMYK Tiffs etc are loaded. Which QU can't handle anyway. It is more problematic when a file to load in QU is an RGB Tiff created from PDFs or CMYK Tiff by converting them or rasterising them in Photoshop, the PDF derived should be made flat too. It looks like a flag is still in the file that refers to its former state and QU picks that up. I either use a detour through Photoline, loading the created RGB Tiff and saving it again or save a 16bit PNG from Photoshop and loading it again and then save it as a Tiff. Layers should also be avoided. File as flat as possible and preferably JPEG, 8 bit Tiff, 16 bit Tiff, PSD, in that order.

Ok Anderson.
Received the file and I couldn't read it either even with Light Room.
So I passed it on to Mike Chaney who has a copy of Photo Shop.

He will follow up on why it was messed up, how to fix it, etc.

I opened it in PS.  It is an ~8800x12500 image in 16 bits/channel so the image size is about 650 MB.  It has 5 layers.  In Lightroom you get a message to go back in PS and save it with "Maximize reverse compatibility".  In PS, all I did was resave it and unchecked layers and it gave me a 650 MB PSD.  QU reads that fine.  This image looks like it might be a scan of a print at somewhere between 1200 and 2400 PPI.  If so, I would recommend never scanning higher than 600 PPI because no paper can hold more than about 600 PPI of information.
