Hi, In the past, I have been able to click on the "Test Strip - Crop and Reduce" icon multiple times and it would reduce the "Cropping" image size so that I could create a test print, then I could drag the portion of the image that I wanted to see in the test print into the print area. In version 2023.105, clicking on the "Test Strip" icon indicates the same image size in the "Cropping" box, and merely enlarges the image at a reduced resolution. What am I doing wrong??  |

Hi Keith, I cannot make anything go wrong here. This test strip feature is designed to allow you to see closely, a selected portion of a print, before you print it. For example, if you want to see if a piece of jewelry is clear, or a logo is clear enough to read.., at the PPI of the print. So we click on the test strip button a number of times to reduce the size of the test print to use a smaller size paper to test. While reducing the size, it maintains the ppi (pixels per inch) of the final print so you can enlarge an area to see if you approve. There is a small blue button marked ZOOM at the top of the vertical slider. Hold your mouse button down on that and it will give you the ppi. It stays the same regardless of your selected test print size. Then I close the page editor and I find my test image ready to print. just change to a smaller size paper for economy, and make a test print. Hi Fred, thanks for the quick reply. The YouTube video that you linked in your reply is where I first figured out how to create the test strip in previous versions. But in V105, when I click on the Test Strip Icon, unlike the way the image reacts in the video. my image gets larger, zooming in, rather than getting smaller and creating the white space around the image. Also, my image size in the Cropping Tab is not changing at all, let alone decreasing, as it does in the video. I either have something checked, or I'm doing something incorrectly. I just need to figure out what is preventing me from getting my image to respond the way that your images do in the video. Thanks for your help with this, Keith

Keith, I am unable to repeat your symptoms. The first choice from me would be a reinstall... (no need to uninstall first, just install over the top). In case your anti virus program is interfering, see if you can disable it for 5 minutes during the reinstall. Beyond that, we will have to wait for Mike. He is probably in a phone booth changing from street clothes to his cape and Q-man outfit. Seriously, he will be along in a couple of hours, even on a Sunday. Hang in there. Fred |

Is there any way you can make a screen recording showing what you are getting? I don't see any other way. Screencastify is a Chrome extension that would allow you to record your screen. Maybe a reset would fix it but then we wouldn't know what really caused it. We probably have to see what you are doing. There also may be some confusion of terms. For example, you say "image" when I think you mean "print". So seeing it in action would be the best way to see what you are doing.

Thanks for the recording. Now I see the problem. Somehow you ended up with no print(s) selected when you went into the full page editor and not having a print selected is what is causing this "glitch". Click on the print on the preview in the full page editor to select it first; then use the test strip function and it will work as expected.
The cropping tool defaults to the first print on the page if no prints are selected but the test strip function is expecting a print to be selected (so it knows which print to modify print size). I can touch that up in the next version so it assumes the one in the crop window is "selected" but for now just be sure to click on the print for which you want the test strip prior to using the functions on the cropping tab.

I'm just thankful that I didn't "accidentally" have an image selected and got it to work once, then it wouldn't work the next time. You weren't really doing anything "wrong"... just a little different workflow which exposed a bug I need to fix. What about me? There was a problem in Fred's Q signal too: he shined the search light on the clouds between him and me and that made the Q upside down when I looked at it. It looked like an apple with the stem on top so I thought someone was wanting Apple (Mac) support and I went back to bed.  Mike |

Well, honestly, if I hadn't found Fred's video on how to make a test strip with Qimage years ago, I could have likely created a land fill full of 44" roll prints which were far less than desirable. I re-watched that video four times looking for my error, and still didn't see it. I now know to "select" the image before progressing. You two make a great team to solve the problems that we users can create for ourselves. |

You two make a great team to solve the problems that we users can create for ourselves. Smiley Keith, It's always best to ask the questions, as far as I'm concerned. Over the years, forums were usually monitored by some "smart guys", and took delight from chastising a user that would have the temerity to ask a question that had been asked before. "How about looking it up and not wasting everyone's time " We, here, take the approach: we like to reply again as there are always new Qimage users who had never yet heard of THE TEST STRIP FEATURE.
