v2014.105    08/03/13

Priority: Low

v2014.105 includes the following:

  • Image databasing features: Ability to edit folder descriptions right from the search results grid after using "Search Folders"!
  • Copy database info: Folder/photo descriptions are automatically copied when using "File", "Update" from Flash Card Copy/Move, facilitating database backup.
  • UI improvements: Minor UI improvements to help streamline new image databasing features.

Mike,

My current pc was purchased in 2011 and has Windows 7 OS.  Back then I loaded the then current version of Qi-U.  Ever since then I was able to upgrade when necessary, as a user.  I successfully upgraded to v2014.100 and it worked well.  And I really like the improvements.

Yesterday, I upgraded to v2014.104 and installed it as a user.  When I tried to open it I was given a message that is attached.  It was an error message which included statements about administrator status would cause errors.

Anyhow, after reloading it several times and getting the same error, I then tried installing v2014.100 and it worked beautifully.  After many unsuccessful tries with 104 I then deleted it from my computer using administrator status.  I cleaned the computer.  Then I re-logged on as a user.  I checked to make sure that the software was deleted.  I also cleaned the computer as a user.

Then I re-installed 104.  Same problem.  I was about to write you on this forum when I noticed that 105 had just come out.  So I installed it.  The same problem again.

I will add, whenever I load any software as a user, then a window appears that requires me to get administrator permission.  This was so with v2011, v2012, v2013 programs and with v2014.100, which does work.

I'm not sure what glitch slipped into the current versions or if it got in with v2014.101 or 102 or 103,  because I didn't upgrade Qi-U with them.  But I do know that I encountered the problem with 104.

Any help or advice will be appreciated

I believe you have a unique situation that involves some problematic files that cannot be deleted.

No problem here.  When I install 104 or 105, I immediately get the message to enter the admin password.  Works fine from there.

Try right clicking on the install file and use "Run as Administrator".  Maybe that'll force it.  Not sure why your system is not picking up the admin requirement automatically.

Edit: maybe I should get clarification... When you run the 105 install, does it ask you for the admin password?  If it does, then there are files in \programdata\ddisoftware\Qimage that not even the Administrator can delete!  Go into \programdata\ddisoftware\Qimage and try to manually delete all files that match these specs:

redo.*
undo.*
*.ini
{Q}*.*
*.{Q}
preview.ses

When I ran 105 to install I was asked for administrator's password.

So I did what you recommended in ProgramData\ddisosftware\Qimage; however, I could only find redo.* and undo.*.  So I went into each subfolder, but didn't find anything.

My last resort was to delete the whole folder ..\ddisoftware\Qimage.  I also uninstalled all my Qimage programs.

Then I once again cleaned the hard drive of any junk.  Next I rebooted the computer.  Then I reinstalled 105.  Now it seems to be running as it is supposed to.  I still have to set my settings.

Thanks for the clues.  I hadn't realized or thought about the ProgramData folder.
