Sorry, but can't open either of the files.  Also, it seems no data in them.

Jeff,

Wishing both of you the same.
Nicely done.

Fred,

Maybe I should have said that there seemed to be a disconnect.

It would be good if there was some consistency.  In a future version one of the labels should be changed:  it should be either Raw Format Options or Raw Image Options--but not two different ones for the same thing.

Thanks for listening

Raw Image Options.  Fred, thanks for pointing this out.  However, when I went searching for it I had a hard time finding it.  I found it by accident.  How?  Well, I did the following:  1) clicked on Edit; 2) click on Preferences; 3) the clicked on Raw Format Options.  What showed up was a screen titled Raw Image Options.  Voila, success; but at for a while it was like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

It turned out that my settings reflected your.  Thanks.

When I ran 105 to install I was asked for administrator's password.

So I did what you recommended in ProgramData\ddisosftware\Qimage; however, I could only find redo.* and undo.*.  So I went into each subfolder, but didn't find anything.

My last resort was to delete the whole folder ..\ddisoftware\Qimage.  I also uninstalled all my Qimage programs.

Then I once again cleaned the hard drive of any junk.  Next I rebooted the computer.  Then I reinstalled 105.  Now it seems to be running as it is supposed to.  I still have to set my settings.

Thanks for the clues.  I hadn't realized or thought about the ProgramData folder.

Mike,

My current pc was purchased in 2011 and has Windows 7 OS.  Back then I loaded the then current version of Qi-U.  Ever since then I was able to upgrade when necessary, as a user.  I successfully upgraded to v2014.100 and it worked well.  And I really like the improvements.

Yesterday, I upgraded to v2014.104 and installed it as a user.  When I tried to open it I was given a message that is attached.  It was an error message which included statements about administrator status would cause errors.

Anyhow, after reloading it several times and getting the same error, I then tried installing v2014.100 and it worked beautifully.  After many unsuccessful tries with 104 I then deleted it from my computer using administrator status.  I cleaned the computer.  Then I re-logged on as a user.  I checked to make sure that the software was deleted.  I also cleaned the computer as a user.

Then I re-installed 104.  Same problem.  I was about to write you on this forum when I noticed that 105 had just come out.  So I installed it.  The same problem again.

I will add, whenever I load any software as a user, then a window appears that requires me to get administrator permission.  This was so with v2011, v2012, v2013 programs and with v2014.100, which does work.

I'm not sure what glitch slipped into the current versions or if it got in with v2014.101 or 102 or 103,  because I didn't upgrade Qi-U with them.  But I do know that I encountered the problem with 104.

Any help or advice will be appreciated

I also like the new "Darkroom" skin.  I also like the color dots on the buttons.  It didn't take long to get used to the black skin, and I remembered that I had it on my Lightroom.  It makes it easier to focus on the photos.  The new buttons are also much easier to read and use.  So, I add my thanks to Mike as well as to the testers.

Thanks to all who helped clarify the discussion of QIU over on DPR.  I too learned of QI over on the Fuji Talk Forum in the early 2000s when I started into digital photography.  Many of those guys left DPR for good when a couple of individuals began to bully others--at least now they have moderators and it has toned down.

I have used Lightroom v1 and v4.  While v4 is a significant improvement over the earlier versions, I still haven't got the hang of it.  QI does an excellent job in developing my raw images.  Fortunately, the cameras I bought have been included in the DCraw base.

There's an interesting discussion taking place on DPReview concerning QI Ultimate.  And there are some misconceptions about QUI, especially DCRaw updates.

I've made some feeble attempts, but some of you could do a better job of clarifying.  Here's the URL:

Sounds like purple fringe.  Can you attach a photo that shows the problem you're trying to correct?

A key advantage of Vuescan is that they keep updating it.  If you purchase the "Professional Version" you get unlimited updates.  This helps as Windows OS keeps changing and if you purchase a different scanner.

What does the above Poll mean?  Why is there?  It just doesn't make sense.

Fred and Terry,

Thanks for these explanations and suggestions.  They provide me with a few more clues and approaches when using QU.

Not to belabor the point, but Jeff's approach is good.  That's what I've been doing and I have rarely been disappointed.

I don't print enough to justify an injet printer.  When I used injet for black and white text and didn't use the printer for a very long time, I found that it was clogged.  I'm sure that this would happen with color cartridges, which are very expensive.

I like your PP.  But I like the whole image even more.  There's a "pastoral" calm in it.
