1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Issue with Borders and Rotation - Bug? on: October 05, 2022, 10:37:17 AM
thanks for the reply and the explanation.
It's not really how I would expect it to react. I would have thought the image would keep the required dimension regardless of which way it was rotated.

Hello Mike
I think I've found exactly where the issue is and why you're not recreating it....

If the image is set to 'Original Size' then all is good, but if, like I had the image is set to 'Specify One Dimension' even if it's the same size as the original size then that's when I get the issue.

So I'm not sure if that is by design?

Just tried it on all the placement modes including freehand but not the template ones and the same is happening.
I've even changed the paper size to 60x60 inch and the same is happening.

6  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Issue with Borders and Rotation - Bug? on: October 04, 2022, 02:21:09 PM
Hello

Setup:
version 2023.103
Paper size 24x17 inch (odd size as I'm printing on a roll)
12x8 inch image - portrait way round
2" border B+ (making the print size including the border 16x12inch)
Intellicut Placement
Auto Print Rotation off

The issue I'm having:
When I click on either the rotate 90 degrees buttons (left or right) the image rotates but the border switches from B+ to B making the image including the border smaller.

Is it meant to do that or is it a bug?

7  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: RFP (request for proposal) Printing of PDFs on: September 02, 2022, 04:44:44 PM
I agree that using the PDF format for photographic images is not good - far better file formats are better suited for that.
But, for graphic vector-type images using the PDF format is legitimate (of course, saved in the right way) and is used by graphic designers and illustrators.

The humble PDF is capable of great things - I don't think that's always realised.

I have a client who is a professional illustrator who I print for - not that often, maybe once or twice a year. He will always send me his images in PDF format. The files are always very good quality and totally scalable. I could print them the full 60" width of my printer if I wanted to because they are vectors. (He uses Adobe Illustrator to produce his work)

I don't see QI as a 'Photo printing app' - I see it as an 'Image printing app'. Calling QI a photo printing app is selling it short!

But for me, on the very odd occasion I'm asked to print a PDF I'll just open it up in PS make it the right size and save it as a PSD, it's not a big issue. I would rather Mike spend his time working on something that will make QI even better! (is that even possible? lol!)

Just as an example, the attached image is one of my client's illustrations. it's not a photographic image, but QI handles it perfectly! This image came to me as a PDF.

8  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: RFP (request for proposal) Printing of PDFs on: September 01, 2022, 10:06:11 AM
I have in the past been asked to print PDFs and found it a little inconvenient that QI doesn't print them directly.

I think that PDFs can be seen in one of two ways:
1 it's a text document made into a convenient format that's easily shared.
2 it's a lossless vector* format that can't be modified making it perfect for graphic designers and illustrators to send to printshops or share with clients. (*I should say that it can be lossless and vector if saved in the right way)

Certainly, there are professional graphic designers and illustrators producing vector graphics who favour sharing images in PDF format to protect their designs/illustrations, which can also be viewed by everyone using any number of widely available PDF viewers.

For me, it's not a big issue as I'm not asked to print many and when I do I just convert it in PS (albeit one extra step in the workflow process that takes time). I can see if I was printing lots of PDFs every day it would get laborious!

Having said that, if I could print PDFs direct from QI that would be great - but for me, it's not a biggie.

Hello Mike
Thanks for your quick response.

Yes, it's happening when I move the mouse pointer over a thumbnail on the left - it's doing it with every image file, not just an odd one or two.

Here is a link to a jpg its doing it with - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1175dBPdIVOyAt73C39PfeYRySgagx2J2/view?usp=sharing

Hello
Just got this pop-up when I started up QI (v2022.122)
What's that all about? Should I be worried?
13  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: colours now not accurate :( on: May 31, 2022, 11:54:59 AM
Thanks, Fred and Mike
I didn't know about the Printer target setup.job.... every day is a school day LOL!

I will use that and make up a new, fresh ICC profile and see how I get on.
14  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / colours now not accurate :( on: May 31, 2022, 09:01:16 AM
Hello all
I've just been printing on a paper that I've been using for years with a self-made ICC profile (I use Datacolour Print) which was very accurate but now the colours have gone very pink!
The only thing that's changed in my set-up recently is a couple of new ink tanks and the Qimage version.

So I've down-graded Qimage to a set-up file which I just happened to have on my desktop v2022.114 and re-printed with the exact same settings and there is a noticeable difference in colours.

I understand that Qimage evolves - which is great, but I guess I'm going to have to re-profile my papers to work with how Qimage now works.

So, my question is... just to be 100% sure Smiley
What settings should I have when I print my colour targets for profiling?

At the moment I turn off and disable the printer management, but what else should be turned off?
What should the rendering intent be?
Black point compensation on or off?
Interpolate? Off, Fusion, Forge or another?

My set up
Qimage v2022.121
Win 11
Canon iPF9400

Many thanks in advance.
John
15  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Not so much a bug but... Proof.tiff Blue pixels on: July 17, 2020, 08:42:25 PM
Hello Mike
I was helping a friend who is new to Qimage and he asked what the dots were on the left and top edge when he applied the Proof.TIFF Cutout.

After looking in to it I opened up the Proof.TIFF file in photoshop and noticed 3 dark blue pixels on the left edge and 2 on the top edge.... which were obviously printing on the image.
I'm guessing this is not the desired effect?

I have removed the blue pixels on the TIFF and sent him a copy which has fixed the problem.

I wouldn't go as far to call it a bug but thought I'd bring it to your attention.
